** As with all wireless products the maximum range is determined by the amount of interference between base stations. Any obstruction in direct line-of-sight range will reduce the effectiveness of the signal between the individual units and reduce the distance of the signal between the individual base stations. For maximum distance reduce as much interference as possible.
Can the antenna be removed and replaced with an exterior antenna?
YES! We carry the ritron external antenna for this reason: https://www.guardlinesecurity.com/products/ritron-25ft-add-on-antenna
We have great success with buildings with metal siding or heavy interference. It connects to the base station.
Can I use two units without using a base station? Or will the frequencies be mismatched?
In order to use one of the MURS alarm sensors (motion or metal detector), you will need either a base station or a hand held radio. Any combination of hand held radios and base stations will work together.
Are the units battery powered or 110v?
The base stations are powered with 110v power, and come with the necessary adapter.
How many hand sets come for the 158.00
Two hand held radios come in this set.
On the Dakota Alert 4 mile Wireless Intercom, is the antenna removable so a cable could be attached to move the antenna could be mounted on the outside of a metal building? Also, as I understand it it can be locked on for continual monitoring like a baby intercom correct?
The antenna can be removed from the unit. The unit cannot however, be locked "on" as a baby monitor could.
