Dakota Alert 4-Mile Handheld Radio

I myself think the voice sound is annoying and it has a lot of crackling sound in a couple of them (my husband tends to deal with it). I would probably of checked into another one.

Great product

Works well on our farm traveling back and forth in vehicles and on foot. Easy to know if sensor has been tripped on other end of farm 2 miles away. Great way to communicate with our base stations.

Dakota Alert 4-Mile Handheld Radio

This radio works very well with our entire system. It allows us to hear who has entered our facility while we are out of the office and also allows us to speak with the office and them to speak with us when necessary. A great radio and great over all system. Thank you.

I have not used these but the statement "Uses the MURS signal for the longest range intercom available." isn't exactly true. Per the FCC Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) uses channels in the 151 – 154 MHz spectrum range. No MURS system transmitter shall, under any condition of modulation, transmit more than 2 watts transmitter power output. The usual range of communications between MURS stations is less than a few miles. 2 watts of transmitting power is very low and is basically same amount of power any cheap 2 way radio you can buy from any of your local big box stores. The only way you *might* get 4 mile range is in a wide open totally flat area w\ no hills, tree's ,buildings etc in between. I am a licensed HAM radio operator as well as a K-9 handler for a search team I have a $200 YAESU radio pushing double the power @ 5 watts w\ an aftermarket antenna which enables it to receive signals from a greater distance vs the stock antenna and am lucky to talk to other handlers in the field who are less than 2 miles away w\o using a repeater. Bottom line this should be fine for room to room or maybe house to outbuilding a few hundred yards away but it's not going to get out to 4 miles.

Primarily purchased just before wife had lumbar surgery where I could be reached anywhere in house including downstairs. It works. To test on back of our 9 acre property. Have not had time;however, range off property either direction is approximately 1/2 mile. These replace Radio Shack intercoms which were extremely unreliable. Satisfied with purchase. May link to alert zones when I have the time. James
